  • Review: Too Beautiful To Break by Tessa Bailey #excerpt #top5

I’ve been reading Tessa Bailey’s books for so many years and this is the book that I always felt like she was destined to write.

I fell in love with her dirty talking, alpha heroes and I’ve watched those kinds of characters evolve and I’ve wanted that. I’ve also wanted her to write books with a larger word count so she would have more room to stretch her “writing wings”. I wished for this years ago and here we are, with Belmont, one of Bailey’s most (if not the most so far) complex characters that she has ever created.

There is a danger in saving a character like Belmont for last. Will he live up to the build-up? The short answer for me is YES. Is it an easy journey? No, not at all. There are so many layers to Belmont and why he is the way he is and the reader needs to be patient with him.

As for Sage, she has her own journey to take and I wasn’t exactly prepared for the depth of that journey either and how it influences her relationship with Belmont.

The relationship between Sage and Belmont has also been built up. Readers always knew that their relationship was super intense and their connection runs deep. But how would that relationship be impacted when it finally reached a physical connection? Personally, I enjoyed the exploration into the physical part of their relationship and how it created another level of connection and depth. It was extremely intense and SEXY. Good lord.

Too Beautiful to Break is the bookend to the Clarkson’s New Year’s Day journey to the Polar Plunge that was laid at their feet by their mother, Miriam. While it was hard for her children to understand on a deeper level why she sent them on this pilgrimage, at first, when you look at it as a whole and with Belmont’s role in it, it makes sense.

TBtB highlights just how much Bailey’s writing has developed and how far she has come since those first Line of Duty books.

Tessa stopped by and shared a Clarkson centric playlist. Check it out!

Hello! Thank you so much for having me! There are so many songs that remind me of the Clarksons—I’m excited to share some of them with you!

    1. Marathon by the Heartless Bastards. This song and its slow buildup just capture the feeling of this dysfunctional family road trip. It’s about all of us running and running, trying to keep up—and sometimes we need help to make it to the finish line.
    2. Too Hot to Handle by Michael Shea. My brother actually wrote a song for the first book in the series! I cried when he played it for me, because it was Rita and Jasper to a T.
    3. Colours by Skinny Lister. There were some scenes in the series where everyone was just quiet in the rumbling Suburban and this song reminds me of those times. Just everyone lost in their thoughts, eating up road under the massive American sky.
    4. Sometime Around Midnight by Airborne Toxic Event. This song reminds me of Peggy and Elliott. It’s about a man in a bar who sees a woman he used to love …and everything comes rushing back. How she smelled, dresses she wore when they were together. And he’s suddenly going out of his mind to see her, to touch her. It’s a glorious song.
    5. Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky. Whenever I needed to get in the mood to write this series, I put on this song and I would see the final scene in my head. I would see the ending and it would motivate me to write the story. There are no words, just this beautiful buildup and it’s so happy, it leaves you hopeful.

  • Review: Disorderly Conduct by Tessa Bailey

I attempted to read a book that is releasing this week. I got about 10% in and I knew that while it was going to a very steamy book, I knew that the heart, the soul, the relationship was not going to be properly developed.  Needless to say, I DNF’d and moved on.

Not long after that, I started Disorderly Orderly Conduct and I thought, “YES! This is how you do it!”  And that reminded me once again, how good Bailey is at combining passion, sexy times and an actual relationship.

Ever and Charlie are in utter and complete denial as far as the status of their “relationship”. Neither one thinks they want a relationship or want to settle down and fall in love. Things do change for Ever and she goes on a hunt for a man to settle down with, which thank goodness, spurs Charlie into action. And let’s face it, he is a GONER for Ever.  Oh, and did I mention that he calls her “Cutie” and she calls him “Big Man”? Good LAWD.

Not only does Bailey combine passion and relationship development, she’s so freaking funny. I found myself laughing out loud one minute and swooning the next. I know that I’m talking about how much I love this book, but I really do love it. If you’ve read Bailey, it reminds me of her first series, Line of Duty, which was EXCELLENT. Charlie is alpha and ridiculously sexy like the LoD men were. Plus, he is not afraid to pour his heart out to Ever.

“I’ve been writing my name on every part of you. Knew it and couldn’t stop it. Couldn’t help it since day one. Mine. Mine. Mine.”

    Uh yeah.

As for the rest of the series? To say that it is promising is a giant understatement. Jack and Danika, Charlie’s roommate and fellow academy trainees, books are on deck. Jack is up next and I’m very intrigued by him and how his story will unfold. Charlie has a broody and quiet older brother, Greer, also a police officer and I CANNOT wait for his book. Bailey always manages to create a character who she makes wait for their book. She introduces them early in the series, builds their story a bit in each book and then whomps you over the head with an incredible book.

What is there left to say about Disorderly Conduct? It was excellent and highly recommend it. Bailey, once again, gracefully combines whip-smart humor, through the roof chemistry and passion, into one hot and smokin’ package.

  • Crashed Out by Tessa Bailey Review and some Brazens to keep you warm…

Tessa Bailey is one of my favorite authors.  I’ve always enjoyed how she combines gruff, dirty talking men with women who are not afraid to go toe to toe with them.  Some of my all time favorite male characters are from Tessa’s Line of Duty series.

I’m always excited when she starts a new series and I was definitely looking forward to Crashed Out.  No matter what, I enjoy her books on some level.  But, I have to be honest and say that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as her others.  Why?  Well, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but there was too much sex and not enough heart.  Sarge was…holy shit almost over the top dirty talkin’ hot.  I mean, he totally came in and swept Jasmine off her feet and put her on her back.  Chemistry was not a problem between these two, that’s for sure!  They both had some pretty big issues to deal with as far as how they would maintain a relationship and those issues weren’t really dealt with until around 90% into the book.  *shrugs*

I think Ms. Bailey has the ability to combine the carnal and the emotional aspects so well.  I know, I know, this is the Brazen line and that emotional connection isn’t the main goal here but I just felt like there was more depth to her previous Brazens.

Would I recommend it?  Sure, I mean, it’s Tessa and even when it’s not my favorite of hers, it’s still good.

Erin Robinson is having an epically bad year. Her blossoming career on Broadway tanked, forcing her to crawl back to home to Wellington. The icing on her failure cake? Her former on-again, off-again fling is in town, and the sexy Marine is taking up way too much space.

  • Review: Up in Smoke by Tessa Bailey Excerpt

    up in smoke blog tour

Connor was a lot different than I anticipated, I thought he’d be kind of grumpy and crass. I had a hard time getting a read on him when we met him in Sera and Bowen’s book.  Once he met Erin, he was done for. She immediately appealed to him, despite her many issues.  Sometimes a female MC with “issues” can very hard to like, not the case with Erin.  Even with her issues, Erin is one of my favorite heroines.  She is hilarious and smart and an extremely unique female character who  manages to find humor and irony in her own issues.   I had to wonder how Erin was going to get past her issues to become intimate with Connor, but Ms. Bailey brought her along as slowly as she could despite the absolutely boiling over attraction that Connor and Erin had for each other.

Can I just say that there is a whole lot of testosterone in this book?  The combination of Derek, Bowen and Connor in one room is almost too much to handle.  I found myself needing to stick my head in the freezer to alleviate the hot flashes. Let’s not forget Austin, his book is next and I cannot wait to see what he brings to the table.

As always, Ms. Bailey brings us a ridiculously sexy couple in Connor and Erin.

As if her thoughts had made him appear, Connor strode into the courthouse. Her pulse started beating double time, her stomach muscles tightening. Good Lord, the man was a fucking panty dropper. She’d only been away from him for a few hours and it felt like years since she’d experienced his presence. In jeans and a fitted gray T-shirt that molded to his muscles like her hands itched to do, he personified confidence and authority. Hot, rugged male. His gaze connected with hers immediately and darkened. She thought back to that morning when he’d dressed in the early morning light, his abs flexing as he pulled the shirt over his head. His erection barely contained by his boxers. She’d never been one to beg for anything, but she’d been seconds from offering him her mouth. Pleading for the privilege of sucking him off.

Conner shook his head at her with a sexy half smile on his face, as if he could read her thoughts across the room. He stopped at the metal detector and walked through after the security guard beckoned him forward. When the woman grabbed her wand and instructed him to raise his hands in the air, something ugly reared its head deep inside her. The detector hadn’t even beeped. There was no reason for the personal service. When the woman smiled at Connor and ran a hand down her ponytail, Erin propelled herself forward, boots echoing on the polished marble.

Erin hissed as she drew even with the guard. “If you’re done feeling up my boyfriend, I’d love a turn. We were in a rush this morning.”

The guard dropped the wand, letting it dangle near her thigh. “Did you just hiss at me?”

    Erin hissed again.

“Okay.” Connor stepped between them, winking down at her. “We should go. Don’t want to keep the clerk waiting.”

Appreciation spread in her belly like honey. He hadn’t chided her for her behavior or apologized to the woman on her behalf. Instead he’d given the impression they were on their way to get married, appeasing her jealousy in one fell swoop. “That’s right.” She sauntered toward the elevator. “There’s vows to be exchanged. Rings to put on fingers. Shit like that.”

She glanced behind her to find Connor staring at her ass as she walked, so she put a little swing in her hips and savored his groan. Damn. She’d definitely never had this much fun at a courthouse.

A moment later, she and Connor stepped into an empty elevator. She hit the button for the top floor even though the clerk was on the first, and leaned back against the wall, looking up at him through her eyelashes. “How was your morning, baby? Was it worth leaving me in bed, all hot and bothered for you?”

“Fuck no, it wasn’t.” He crooked a big finger at her. “Climb on up here.”

  • Review: Chase Me by Tessa Bailey

Louis McNally the Second is officially on my list of Book Boyfriends.  It’s true!  I’ve always trusted Ms. Bailey’s writing abilities, even when she writes in genres that I’ve had less than stellar experiences with.  But you know what?  I learned something this week about the New Adult genre this week.  While watching a Spreecast with Katee Robert and Tessa Bailey this week, she clarified a really great point about the New Adult genre – you can see the video clip- HERE. This conversation completely clarified how I felt about the genre and why I love and loathe NA.

First, let me say that this is not a crazy, angst- ridden self-involved new adult book.  Thank God for that.  Chase Me is so funny and so sexy and I loved all of the characters that Ms. Bailey introduced.  Louis and Roxy have incredible chemistry from the moment Louis opens his door to Roxy standing there, dressed as rabbit, ready to deliver a singing telegram.

Roxy is a tough chick.  I really like her, she busts her ass in order to follow her dream of being an actress and she doesn’t want to take favors from anyone.   Enter Louis, who when we first meet him, he comes off as a manwhore.  I mean, the singing telegram is from the chick he slept with the night before! But, he really is a good guy and that becomes clear not that long after he and Roxy meet.  While he certainly shared one  of Bailey’s trademark leading man traits- DOMINANT, he wasn’t overbearingly so.  Quite frankly, he was downright endearing and he just stole my heart.  Of course, the sexytimes between Louis and Roxy are ridiculously hot.  Duh.

Oh and just wait until you meet his sisters!  Crazy.

This is the first book in the Broke and Beautiful series and we are introduced to the rest of the B & B crew.  Roxy’s roommates Abby and Honey, Louis’s friends, Russell, and Ben.  Luckily, we don’t have to wait long for more of Ms. Bailey’s brand of funny and sexy new adult books, Need Me (Honey and Ben’s book) releases 4/21/15!  Yaa!

Her sarcastic bubble burst over her head when the door swung open, revealing a guy.  A hot-as-hell guy.  A naked-except-for-unbuttoned-jeans guy.  Being the shameless hussy she was, her gaze immediately dipped to his happy trail, although, on this guy, it really should have been called a rapture path.  It started just beneath his belly button, which sat at the bottom of beautifully defined ab muscles.

  • Review: Risking it All by Tessa Bailey

A couple of months ago, while reviewing another Tessa Bailey (reviews) book I lamented that I’d like for to write a book with a higher word count.  Well, I got my wish.

Our man is Bowen is  broken and bruised in so many ways and Ms. Bailey really got to the heart of him.  Bowen is quite an edgy guy and has some serious protective instincts where Sera is concerned.  Honestly, I’m kind of left scratching my head as far as what to say in this review.  I’m not going to mince words, I enjoyed everything about this book.  Bowen and Sera are going to be a read again couple for me for sure.  My Kindle needed to spend some time in the freezer though.  Smokin’.

“Did Hogan tell you not touch me or something? Because-”

What?” His head whipped up, the hands holding hers against the wall flexing hard.  “Listen to me, if I wanted to fuck you, I’d end anyone or anything who got in my way.  Nothing would stop me.  Not a locked door,  Not some lowlife.  Nothing.”

“If?” she repeated, embarrassment cooling her desire.  “You don’t want to?

His laughter was harsh. “Want to? Want to?” One of his hands loosened its grip to drop down and grasp the bulge in his pants.

“I didn’t even know it was possible to ache this bad.  It hurts to breathe, baby.”

This book is a spin off of Ms. Bailey’s Line of Duty series and is a great start to the new series, Crossing the Line.  I cannot wait for the next one! (What else is new?)

  • Quote-Tastic Monday & Review: Riskier Business by Tessa Bailey

    Quotebutton

Welcome to Quote-tastic Monday meme hosted by Herding Cats & Burning Soup.

I’ve come to the conclusion that whatever Tessa Bailey writes, I will love.

Troy tried to pull her close, but she evaded him.

“Answer me.  Will you insist on treating me like I’m breakable even if it means losing me?”

His head fell forward on a weary sigh.

“If it comes down to a choice between your safety, your life, and keeping you as my girlfriend, I’d keep you safe every time.  I’m sorry.  It’s how I’m built, Ruby.”

Ruby swiped at the tear rolling down her cheek.  “What about how I’m built?”

    Oh Troy, Troy, Troy,

Of all of the guys that Ms. Bailey has written, Troy has always been the hardest one to figure out.(His Risk to Take)  I never connected with him as much as Brent, Derek or even Matt…etc. (My affection for him has grown, the more I read that book, the more I liked him.)

In this novella/installment I felt like my vision was cleared.  I always thought that Matt was the uber controlling alpha but I think that Troy beats him.  Now, I understand why.  With Ruby’s background he was always in some state of fear that something would happen to her, something he could not control.  Ruby, is all about taking care of herself, she has done so, for a long time before Troy ever came around.  The two sides/personalities collide in this one.  As always the sexytimes are ridiculously hot but I enjoyed how Troy and Ruby work through the control issue.

Bowen.  Ahem.  This guy, I tell ya, he is piece of work and he is AWESOME.  Course I’m saying this because I’ve already had the pleasure of reading Risking it All and it was excellent.  I cannot wait for all that Bowen goodness to be released.  Riskier Business is a novella in the Line of Duty series and prequel to Bowen’s novel in the Crossing the Line series.  The new series that begins with Bowen is going to be a fantastic “anti-hero” series.

  • Review: Owned by Fate by Tessa Bailey

    OwnedbyFate400

It’s kind of scary to me that Ms. Bailey improves with each book she publishes.  Somehow, some way, something always evolves with her writing.  To be honest, I’m not a huge BDSM fan but I know that if Ms. Bailey wrote it, I won’t not hate it.  😉  I think that’s one of the marks of a truly talented writer, they can take a subject you may not be bouncing off the walls about and push you out of your own zone and enjoy the book.

This one is as full of intensity as (many? all?) of Ms. Bailey’s books are, but Jonah possesses an edge that I found to be slightly different than the others.  That’s something I truly appreciate, Bailey’s characters do not run together for me.

“Why don’t we start with your name?”

He dragged his tongue across his teeth.

“The one I was given at birth or the one I’d prefer you to call me?”

Caroline swallowed hard, already regretting her answer. “Both.”

“Jonah.” He pressed his hips forward.

    “Master.”

Um yeah.  Hot flashes galore with this one.  On the other hand, Ms. Bailey explores Caroline’s viewpoint so well.  Caroline could not understand the lure of this kind of club, much less the lifestyle.  Little did she know that Jonah was exactly what she needed in more ways than one.  Caroline admits to herself that “she expected to be disgusted” and yet she was far from it.  These feelings are quite a source of confusion for her and a source of contention between her and Jonah because he recognizes that she may (or not) be more trouble than she is worth.

But what fun would it be if Jonah walked away from that kind of challenge?  None.  Zip. Nada.  Jonah possesses the requisite “Bailey Badass” intensity and a vulnerability that I will not the reveal the details of.  But I will tell you that it adds another layer of  depth to this story.  Jonah is a dominating sexual ninja AND a tender lover/partner and it’s freaking fantastic.

At one point there was shift in the plot, a moment where a decision is made by Caroline (again, not going to divulge) and I swear, I just sat there and thought “Tessa Bailey, you just moved up another notch as a writer.” When I finished, I felt like this book represented another shift in Ms. Bailey’s writing evolution.  Personally, I think she needs a bigger field to run around in (like a horse needs a large field…like a really pretty, funny and smart horse).  I’m talking larger word count, longer books…more room to run.  Either way, I’ll keep reading.

    Just sayin’.

GUESS WHAT?  In October Ms. Bailey is releasing another book in the SERVE series, Exposed by Fate on 10/27.  The book features Caroline’s brother (Oliver) and her BFF, Eliza.  Good things to come, I suspect.
