    Tough Love Available Now

I have to admit that I wasn’t all that excited about Vanity and Stack at the end of the last book. They ended the last book basically agreeing to get together to have sex and that’s it.(Well in exchange for a wedding date 😉  I wasn’t in the mood for a let’s have sex and chase each other around trope. Once they get together, it’s quite obvious that they really “fit” well together.  Vanity is such a caring and self-less person and she has no ulterior motives where Stack is concerned.  She has her own money, she is quite wealthy in fact, and she has a few jobs.  Yes, I said a few. 🙂  She also cares very deeply for her friends and she bonds easily with them.  Which brings us to Stack’s family, his sister is kind of a hot mess lol.  She isn’t crazy or anything like that, but she tends to over react a bit.  Her husband is a POS (piece of shite) and she has indulged him for way too long.  Then let’s throw in his mother being in the hospital for an injury and you have quite a situation.  Enter Stack- he is the family fixer and his sister has relied on him heavily when it comes to problem-solving.  This time, though, Stack has Vanity with him and she doesn’t hesitate to jump in and help out where she can.  It’s refreshing to read a female character that you can really enjoy and not want to smack upside the head. (I’m not saying she is perfect, I’ll admit that I did want to smack once, I think.)

I really enjoyed the interaction between Vanity and Stack’s family.  Frankly, I really enjoyed this book!  I like the way Ms. Foster uses the community that she has built in each book to complement the major plot.  The whole gang was around, checking in on Vanity, helping her when she needed it and doing their little bit of cockblocking here and there lol.  Of course, when they do finally get together it’s pretty FREAKING HOT. Helloooo.

While Stack and Vanity may have started as a temporary thing, there is no doubt from the beginning that they are totally MFEO. (Made for each other- Sleepless in Seattle reference- look it up)

    Rissy was here.

Ok. I’m officially ready for Armie and Merissa. Officially. *Looks around* Is it February 23, 2016, yet?   Add FIGHTING DIRTY to your TBR

Brushing his thumb over her knuckles, he asked gently, “Nervous, then?”

    She shook her head. “No.”

    “You’re shaking.”

Lifting his hand to her mouth, she lightly bit a knuckle, then kissed the spot. Gaze sincere, she whispered, “Because I’m eager.”

Well, hell. She’d just done it again, made him taut with her words. Needing to explain to her, just in case he jumped the gun, he said, “The first time…”

“Fast and hard,” she finished for him. “I know.” Her smile slipped into place even as her eyes darkened and her voice went all breathy. “It’ll be worth it if I get to watch you. I’ve been thinking about that forever.”

    Jesus.

“After that,” she murmured, “then it can be my turn.”

Trying to give a little more room to his growing erection, Stack stretched out one leg. If she kept that up, he wouldn’t make it to her place. Hell, he was so close to losing it, the idea of pulling over for a quickie in the car appealed in a big way. It should have embarrassed him, how she stole his control. But knowing Vanity pushed him on purpose only made him more determined to blow her mind with sex.

Reaching for long-lost patience, he drew in a deep breath and put both hands back on the steering wheel. “You’re playing with fire. You know that, right?”

“I’m playing with you, Stack Hannigan, and it’s the most fun I’ve had in a very long time.”

He liked her like this, so open about what she wanted—namely, him. “Like I said before, you’ll pay for the play.”

“I’m hopeful.” She laughed, and even that turned him on.

Vanity was the one of the sexiest women he’d ever known, but she was also real. Bold. He didn’t have to wonder at her thoughts, because she spelled out what she wanted and how she wanted it.

She also made it clear that their time together had a short time frame, and after they’d settled the lust, she fully expected him to mosey on out of her life.

Should’ve been perfect, only…it nettled him that she didn’t push for more.

Both of them now silent, he turned a corner onto a dark street—and immediately saw the collision. Two vehicles, one in a ditch, the other overturned. Headlights cut the dark of the night at odd angles. Even as Stack slowed his car, searching the scene, the overturned car ignited and flames licked into the air.

“Oh, my God.” Vanity sat forward to stare. “There!” She pointed to the side of one car. “There’s a body!”

Stack jerked the car to the curb, slammed it into park and released his seat belt at the same time. “Call 911.”

She already had her purse in her hands, digging through it. “Be careful,” she called after him as he hurriedly left the car.

He’d only taken one step when Stack heard a woman’s weak screams.

  • Review: Holding Strong by Lori Foster

I’ve been trying to figure out how I was going to write this review since I finished this book.  Lori Foster is a favorite author of mine and I’ve enjoyed the Ultimate series so far.

It’s not that I didn’t enjoy this book, I totally did.  I think I just derived more enjoyment from the secondary plot and everybody’s else’s stuff going on around them.  Stack and Vanity are circling each other and so are Armie and Rissy.  Frankly, I, like many others, are just DYING for Armie and Rissy and the wait is almost torturous.

Back to Cherry and Denver.  Cherry is a flirt who kind of has the hots for Denver and he has been watching and wanting her for awhile. He has avoided her because of her flirtatious nature.  Finally, the tension between them can no longer be denied and they totally go for it.  Enter some not so nice people from Cherry’s past and Denver is forced to step up to help protect her.  Cherry isn’t so good at taking help.  But Denver and his alpha man ways force her to finally accept some help.

I appreciated how the whole group of friends rallied around Cherry, offering her support and protection.  It certainly took her some time to get used to that kind of friendship and to her relationship with Denver.  That guy, is one INTENSE dude and he does not mess around at all. Holy moly.

Overall, I enjoyed Cherry and Denver’s book. I don’t think it will be my favorite in this series but I certainly enjoyed the ensemble story/aspect of this one. 🙂  I’m definitely looking forward to more in this series!

My rating on this one is somewhere between 3.75 to 4ish stars.
